Welcome

This website is dedicated to patients who have Hip disease and are looking for some information that is easy to understand. The internet is a vast electronic library so it is difficult to 'surf' and not get confused. Just like in the oceans, there are plenty of hazards out there! Much of the information is repeated, so we have tried to put down things that are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere. Read through the contents of the site first. If you want to know more, some reputable sources of further information are listed in the Links section.

Click on the panel to your right to join 'hipsrus' a moderated discussion group of over 300 members who were looking for information or support just like you! When you have seen the site, come and join some real people who have been through the same journey.

If you have a specific question you want answered, e-mail me: m.bloomfield at virgin.net [My e-mail is given in this format to stop spamming]. If you have X-rays you want me to look at, send them as an attachment in JPEG format. The easiest way to do this is to take a picture of the X-rays on a viewing box with a digital camera. Scanning them does not usually work very well. Please only send one or two images at a time to limit size of the file.

There are several reasons for a patient to require hip surgery, and with the latest advances in Hip Replacement and Resurfacing technology, these procedures can be completed in operations that usually take between 1 and 2 hours, with patients expecting a stay in hospital of 7 days or less (depending on age and general fitness). Hip replacement can now be performed through an incision approximately 3" in length ( Minimal Incision Total Hip Replacement )
