Minimal Incision Hip Replacement.

It is now possible in the majority of older patients to perform Total Hip Replacement through an incision approximately 3 inches in length. Patients who have unusual anatomy or fixed contractures may not be suitable. At the end of the day, it is more important that the components used are correctly orientated and firmly fixed in place than the length of the scar.

Mr Bloomfield will advise whether you are suitable for this technique. Hip Resurfacing cannot at present be done through a minimal incision. Shown below are X-rays before and after hip replacement using a standard, well-known, tried and trusted prosthesis (Exeter device from Stryker-Howmedica). The picture is of the patients' scar at 6 weeks follow-up. The scar will mature further and fade to a thin white line with time. What more does one want?
